Friday fun!

Hey gang! Sorry I couldn't make it to the luncheon. I'm sure it was interesting and exciting. I hope everyone's semester is going great. I've had some rough times this go around, but things will get better and the sun always shines. Hope all is well. In the next few days I"m going to post the general outline of my final project. I'd love some feed back and suggestions if anyone has some. I'm off for now. Have a great rest of the weekend! -L

30 page research paper

Hi Everyone,
Hope you had a great spring break! I spent my time on a research paper- which feels like a book! I have 15 pages here, and 30 pages there this semester, and I write like a snail!
It would be really interesting if you all posted your best tip for getting a 30 page research paper done without becoming a computer zombie! Just make a comment on this post. When we have several I'll add them all together and make a list of the five best ways to get a lengthy paper done (and still have time to... walk the dog/shave your legs/tuck your kids in/meet friends after work....)

Looking forward to your comments!

Hey Kristi and the rest of you MSUB grads!

Just a quick note to thank Kristi for being so proactive in getting our grad community going! It will be a great way to stay in touch with current grad students as well as new grads coming into the program.

I am within weeks of completing my MSPR and then I will be thrust back into the job market! I have been fortunate enough to have been able to concentrate on school and not have to work. But those days are drawing quickly to a close.

My grad project is a research paper that is focused on the ethical imperative of crisis communicaiton and managment plans in organizations. I would like to continue my research, however pursuing a Ph. D. at this point is not in my future. I would, quite honestly, like to write a book and develop some training workshops for small business.

My plans at this point include more research with a focus on specific industries to see if and how they provide information about crisis commmunication plans. Most industries have have industry targeted training...what I want to find out is to what extent various indutries are providing an opportunity to learn and implement crisis communication and management plans into their businesses or organizations. It should keep me busy for awhile!

Anyway - I hope we can develop a good level of participation in this new blog. This is my first experience with the process. But since it mostly invovles writing...we should all be pretty good at that by now!!!

First Post

Hi! Great to see you again! Thanks for visiting.

I set up this blog for students to have a chance to have more discussion throughout the semester. It's been really helpful to talk to others who have gone through the program before me, and get their advice on things. Feel free to comment any time. It's great to get to know you all.

A bit about me...
I moved here from Nevada a year and a half ago with my family. I majored in advertising at UNR, but over the next 15 years my interests evolved into public relations. I had to leave the best job I ever had- I worked for the school district in community relations, and loved every minute of it! But I knew that having more intensive understanding of two-way communication was really important, so I started looking at getting a master's degree online. My husband had an opportunity to relocate to Billings and I jumped at it! I started immediately after we moved, and it has been a great experience- but I'm looking forward to getting my nose out of the books after I graduate at the end of this summer.

This semester I'm taking classes online and on campus. I highly recommend taking Theory before taking Org Comm, because you get a lot of theory in the latter, but you're introduced to the whole concept of theory in the first. I did it just the opposite, but it worked out just fine.

I just recently made the connection that I have the same student in both classes! It was great to finally talk to her and say, "hey, you've got some really sharp answers! I enjoy your D2L posts!"

We just pulled together a luncheon where 16 of us came- the professors who were there seemed really impressed and heartened that we're a strong community of interested learners. I think most of us enjoy the moments we had to talk to each other.

I've never done a blog before, but I figured I'd better get savvy on it, because my next job might entail creating or maintaining a blog. So, feel free to share your thoughts; tell what you're studying that's really cool.. or frustrating; or make us laugh!

Look forward to hearing from you!
Enjoy the blog.....
Kristi
